Terry is a born and bred Perth boy who emotionally blackmailed his parents into buying an electric organ and into paying for lessons at the age of 7. He played many styles in recitals, competitions, and in Church.

His early influence was from orchestral composers such as Henry Mancini, and later from bands such as Uriah Heep, Jeff Beck, Freddy King, Judas Priest, and (his favourite) Deep Purple.

Leaving school and organ lessons behind at 16 to join his first band, he soon found himself a niche in hard rock and blues, though able to speedily learn a top 40 repertoire for mercenary reasons.

Irish traditional music became an influence when he joined up with Gerry Quigley in the early 1990’s and he stayed for the ride when The Shinkickers was born.

He believes in making a band more cohesive and musically inspiring with his soaring sounds and melodic interplay. Terry’s musical doctrine (borrowed from an early mentor) is “maximize improvisation, syncopation, and counter- harmonization”.
